My mother and father were drug dealers. They were out of work so long and they weren't going to lose everything they had. So Arcadio Nachine's son set my parents up. My mother wanted to stop paying additional money to Nachine because she ran Inheritance Corp. My parents fought over it and decided to go run drugs down South after finding another supplier.
Did your parents leave you here?
I told them I would go to school. I had to finish my junior and senior year.
How have you been doing in school?
I show up sometimes but I live in the real world. I won't waste my time in a school system that has its own gang of thieves. I won't have the money to go to college. I'm saying I'm better off getting a career that pays me right now.
What career is that?
Drug dealing. As a dealer I'll have a big house and money. It's a regular job. You put in your hours and go home. Valerian sees it as a business and I understand what he means.
What worries you? Do you feel you could be murdered?
Nope. You got to live and feed yourself. If you live right, it doesn't mean you're going to live any longer in this city than somebody doing wrong. You could be a straight A's student and someone shoots the block up. You are hit by a stray bullet then pronounce dead. This is how easy you can die in the city.
Nachine worries me. I can't stand her. She wants all this respect and has earned none of it. I don't give damn what you've done forty or sixty years ago. It's about me and what I get out of the business. I'm not joining to earn and wait for people to respect me and take me serious. She's so annoying you want to kill her. I'm surprised she isn't dead.
